چکیده

Green gram (Vigna radiata L. Wilczek), also known as mung bean, is an important grain legume containing a high amount of digestible protein, amino acids, sugar, minerals, soluble dietary fibers, and vitamins. In Kenya, green production done mainly by smallholder farmers for food sale. The crop grown in arid semi-arid regions plays role towards achieving improved human nutrition health conditions, reducing poverty through security enhancing ecosystem resilience source food, animal feed, soil nitrogen health. Statistics show that though average area under has been growing since 1978, fluctuating consumption increasing steadily upholding constant deficit which catered imports. country’s yield ranges between 0.5-0.6 ton/ha compared to potential 1.5 global 0.73 tons/ha. constrained myriad factors such climate change effects, pest disease prevalence, poor agronomic practices, land degradation decline. Other challenges included: lack structured marketing systems research- extension- farmer linkages, Possession limiting smart agriculture knowledge skills. Access credit facilities agro processing technologies well narrow post-harvest loss management skills was identified other key constraints more so small scale farmers. It however noted the country achieve optimal greengram require adoption technologies, flow information, streamlined government policies, market system. current work reviews crop, with emphasis on its biology, economic importance, ecological requirements, status their management.

Community Profiling of Culturable Fluorescent Pseudomonads in the Rhizosphere of Green Gram (Vigna radiata L.)

Study on microbial diversity in the unexplored rhizosphere is important to understand their community structure, biology and ecological interaction with the host plant. This research assessed the genetic and functional diversity of fluorescent pseudomonads [FP] in the green gram rhizophere. One hundred and twenty types of morphologically distinct fluorescent pseudomonads were isolated during ve...

Regulation of urease in Bradyrhizobium colonizing green gram (Vigna radiata (L.) Wilczek).

In the present study attempts have been made to characterize urease expression in slow growing Bradyrhizobium strains TAL442 and MO5 which are endosymbionts of green gram (Vigna radiata (L.)Wilczek). It was found that urease activity in vegetative cells of both the strains was inducible unlike their fast growing counterparts. Mode of regulation in TAL442 was governed by presence of ammonia. Ure...

Symbiotic effectiveness of bacteriocin producing and non-producing strains of Rhizobium in green gram (Vigna radiata).

Rhizobium strains nodulating green gram [Vigna radiata (L.) Wilczek] were found to produce bacteriocin on modified Bergersen's medium and inhibited the growth of homologous Rhizobium strains. Four bacteriocin producing and four bacteriocin non-producing strains were compared for their effect on nodulation, in planta nitrogenase activity and plant dry weight of green gram. The bacteriocin produc...

Growth promotory potential of the cold adapted diazotroph Pseudomonas migulae S10724 against native green gram (Vigna radiata (L.) Wilczek)

It is being confirmed previously the atmospheric nitrogen fixing ability of the cold adapted Pseudomonas migulae S10724 strain at the fluctuating temperatures. Therefore, net house bioinoculation experiment was performed to determine the effectiveness of inoculation of strain S10724 on the growth enhancement of native green gram (Vigna radiata L. Wilczek). The strain significantly (p < 0.05) st...

In vitro Antimicrobial Activity of Vigna radiata (L) Wilzeck Extracts Against Gram Negative Enteric Bacteria

The rapid spread of multidrug-resistance against conventional antibiotics is a global threat that necessitates the search for alternative therapies from natural sources. In this study, the antibacterial potentials of chloroform and methanol extracts of mung bean sprout (MBS) or Vigna radiata (L) Wilzeck extracts were evaluated against Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumon...
